This Week at Rolling Ridge- #19
December 16-December 20, 2024
Principal's Message
As we approach the joyous season of Christmas, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for your unwavering support and dedication throughout the year. Your commitment to your children's education and our school community has been truly inspiring.
Christmas is a time for reflection, celebration, and spending time with loved ones. I hope you all take this well-deserved break to relax, recharge, and enjoy the festive season with your families and friends.
Thank you once again for your incredible efforts and for making our school a wonderful place for our children to learn and grow.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Celebrations
Rolling Ridge Elementary was recently recognized as an Educational Results Partnership (ERP) Honor Roll School for our high academic achievement and student success.
The ERP Honor Roll program, sponsored by the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE), is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and districts that are improving student outcomes and preparing students with the skills employer's value and demand. Rolling Ridge is one of 1,823 eligible public schools in California to be recognized.
The ERP Honor Roll utilizes public school student achievement data from 2024 to identify successful schools and districts. Our school stands above others in the state because of our demonstrated ability to get students to grade-level achievement and beyond.
Schools that receive the ERP Honor Roll distinction have demonstrated consistently high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time, and a reduction in achievement gaps among student populations.
Way to go Rolling Ridge!
Birthday Treats Protocols
I would like to take a moment to remind everyone of our protocol regarding birthday treats, as outlined in our school handbook. To ensure the safety and well-being of all students, any treats brought to the classroom for birthday celebrations must be individually wrapped. Also we can only accept the treats at the end of the school day, as the items should be consumed at home.
Please note that if items such as donuts are not appropriately wrapped, we will be unable to accommodate them. To prevent any potential issues, I respectfully request your cooperation in following our birthday policy, particularly considering the dietary restrictions of some students with food allergies.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your continued support in maintaining a safe environment for all.

Traffic Guidelines
Traffic Procedures
Here is the traffic plan, please be kind and follow the instructions.
- Drop off & Pick up: Traffic flow is in one direction only (counter clockwise) around the parking lot.
- Drop off & Pickup: Pull forward in the traffic circle ( do not leave a big gap). STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE if you drop off or pick up from the traffic circle. Do NOT leave car unattended. ALL STUDENTS MUST EXIT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE.
- Pick up: All students will be escorted to the front of the school. Only Preschool and Kindergarten parents are allowed to park and pick up their students.
- Pick up: Parents, please be aware that there is NO supervision at the park on the corner of Calle San Marcos and Olympic View. The park may or may not be a safe place for students to "hang out" unsupervised after school.
- Do not walk across the traffic flow line or the entrance/exit of the parking lot. Only walk on sidewalks and crosswalks.
- Please, Only cross on Calle San Marcos at the crosswalks (no jaywalking). This is for your safety!
- Please do not park on the red lines, loading zone, and assigned staff parking spaces.
UPDATE from Chino Hills Sheriff's Dept.:
DURING ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL TIMES THERE IS NO LEFT TURN IN OR OUT OF THE PARKING LOT! PLEASE NOTE IF A SHERIFF IS PRESENT YOU MAY BE REDIRECTED OR TICKETED.
Leaving home a few minutes early could mean missing the school traffic altogether. Most school congestion only lasts 20-25 minutes. Consider setting up carpools with neighbors. Walking your kids to school is a healthy alternative and allows you time to talk to your children. Fewer cars at school mean less waiting and, more importantly, a safer school.
Breakfast is FREE so have your student come join us for breakfast every morning from 7:10 a.m. to 7:40 a.m. and you will avoid the morning traffic!

Parent Volunteers Needed
There are numerous avenues for parents and grandparents to collaborate with our school as valued partners. Information regarding these beneficial opportunities will be shared during our upcoming Back to School Night presentations. Throughout the years, we have been fortunate to benefit from a strong and supportive network of parents. We invite you to participate and uphold this esteemed tradition here at Rolling Ridge. Kindly consult with your child's teacher to explore ways in which you can contribute.

Attendance
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!
The California State Education Code requires school attendance for minors. Students should regularly attend all classes on time. Be in line by 7:48 a.m. and in class by 7:50 a.m. If a student is absent, PLEASE NOTIFY THE SCHOOL on the first day of the absence before 9:00 a.m. If parents are unable to call on each day of an absence, the student, upon the first day of his/her return, MUST bring a written note from a parent or guardian. You have three days to clear your child's absence. Please contact the school office in advance of any long-term (5 or more days) unavoidable absence to arrange a schedule of the work to be completed by the student. This must be done at least one week in advance.
TARDY POLICY
All students must be in line with all necessary materials for the day when the tardy bell rings or they will be considered tardy. A student will be marked "tardy" if they are walking through the gates when the "tardy bell" rings. Otherwise, consequences of "tardies" will be as follow:
The first tardy will result in a warning. A student that is tardy again with a medical excuse will be given the opportunity to make-up the instructional time which was lost. Subsequent "tardies" will result in further disciplinary action left up to the administrative discretion which may include a referral to the School Attendance Review Team (SART) if the number of "tardies" is deemed excessive.
Early Check Out
Students may not be checked out of school during the last 15 minutes of the day. Instructional time is critical to students' progress; please try to schedule medical appointments after school hours. Please notify the teacher before early checkout (at least 24 hours in advance). Students who are checked out early lose valuable instruction time and should only be checked out for family emergencies or medical appointments.
In some cases when students must be absent from school, short-term independent study is available to avoid the truancy declaration and to help return funding. Independent study does have specific guidelines. The office has more information. (Independent study guidelines are subject to change).
Report Absences
Please report your student's absence as soon as possible. Homework requests need to be submitted by 9:00 AM. You can report an absence by:
- Call the Office (909)628-9375
- Submit the absence online: click here
- Go to Rolling Ridge webpage and scroll down to "Rolling Ridge News & Info" and click on "Report An Absence"
- Email our clerk II (Attendance & Registration), Janet Rocha, at janet_rocha@chino.k12.ca.us
Here is a simple guide to help you decide when to keep your student home from school:
Fever
· Stay home if a fever is 100.4 F or higher.
· Return when fever has gone away without fever-reducing medication for a full night.
Diarrhea
· Stay home if your student’s stool is likely to leak or if they are unlikely to make it to the toilet in time. If the stool looks bloody or black, seek medical attention.
· Return when improving.
Vomiting
· Stay home if vomiting has occurred two or more times in 24 hours.
· Return when vomiting has ended overnight, and your student can hold down liquids and food.
Health Office
A health technician is on campus five days a week for 5.5 hours daily. The school nurse is on campus 2 days a week.
Students are not allowed to carry any type of medication with them during the school day.
A health technician cannot administer any medication without written and signed instructions from your medical professional.
Before administering medication, a signed medication request form for the current school year must be on file in the Health Office.

Mrs. Millen, our Intervention Teacher, works closely with small groups of students to enhance their academic skills. Mr. Levy, our Counselor, facilitates small group sessions focused on supporting students' social-emotional well-being. If you have any concerns regarding your child's social-emotional health, please feel free to request assistance by accessing the online Parent Request for Assistance form.
